The continuous increase in petroleum product prices across the country is putting significant financial pressure on the pharmaceutical industry’s field force, especially Medical Representatives. These professionals, who are required to conduct daily visits to doctors, pharmacies, and medical markets, are finding it increasingly difficult to manage their routine operations within the existing travel and field expense budgets.

Recently, a Medical Representative shared concerns highlighting that despite the sharp rise in fuel costs, several companies have not yet revised their daily allowances or monthly field support packages accordingly. He noted that while a number of pharmaceutical companies have taken positive steps by increasing monthly support by PKR 3,000 to PKR 5,000 or adjusting daily field expenses, many organizations still lack a clear and updated policy in this regard.

Field representatives also expressed concern that despite increasing operational costs, sales targets, visit requirements, and reporting duties remain unchanged. This imbalance is creating both financial strain and mental pressure on field staff, who are expected to maintain performance under challenging economic conditions.

Industry experts emphasize that in today’s economic environment, the field force remains one of the most critical assets of any pharmaceutical company. Ignoring their travel and daily operational expenses not only impacts employee morale but can also negatively affect overall market performance and productivity.

There is a growing consensus within serious industry circles that pharmaceutical companies and senior management must urgently address this issue. A review of daily allowances and monthly field support packages is necessary in light of current fuel prices and real-world working conditions, ensuring that Medical Representatives can perform their duties effectively without unnecessary financial burden.

Pharma News Pakistan urges all relevant pharmaceutical organizations and decision-makers to give immediate attention to this pressing issue and implement fair adjustments in field allowances to support their workforce in delivering better healthcare outreach and market performance.
